Bangkok!!!

We had a real whistlestop tour of Bangkok with only 2 nights there but packed it in! Spent our first night in the backpacker area of Khao San Rd which is as crazy as i thought it would be! Loved the foot massages & cheap shopping. My first green curry was very yummy too.

On our 2nd night we went all out  fancy and stayed at the Renaissance Marriot in Ratchaprasong, voted the trendiest hotel in Asia!! (Got a great deal on Travelzoo). It was pretty cool & we loved the gym on the 20th floor, awesome views from the treadmills!! Visited all the big shopping malls & markets. The Gourmet Market & foodhall at the Siam Paragon is unreal. So many different cuisines and yummy food.

Did a day/night trip to Kanchanaburi & Hellfire Pass from Bangkok but more on that in the next post.

Took the night train from Bangkok to Chumphon which was fun. We were in a sleeper compartment with sheets/pillows/curtains etc in an old rattling train filled with locals & backpackers. The hardest part was waking up at 3am to get off at Chumpon! Then took a bus and ferry to Ko Tao. Was awesome to get to the islands at last. More on Ko Tao soon.......

Singapore was spectacular!!! Fireworks & all!!

Singapore was great. Met up with Shawn & Win for drinks. Shawn is the LP author working on the latest Singapore Cityguide. Had a couple of drinks at a rooftop bar, popped into Raffles to look around & then headed to the Esplanade for a bite to eat and a good look at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. The bar at the top was too fancy pants for us to go to with only thongs!!!!

We were very good and went for a morning run around Fort Canning Park!! Very hot & humd but we survived!!

Had some great food in Singapore, especially  an awesome curry in Little India. See Sime getting stuck in.

As it was National Singapore day we were treated to a spectacular display of fireworks on our last night.

Bangkok next.........
